Flash Bang Boom

Flash support from Adobe is ending right about now. But this is not the end of LostVectors. And you can still play my games thanks to something called Ruffle which is a Flash player emulator which you can install as a chrome browser extension or stand alone player.

I’ve tested this and it seems to work okay. It’s not perfect, but it’s something I’m grateful for.

Before learning about this emulator, I spent some time trying to think about how I would preserve my games. I started recording gameplay videos. I even toyed around with trying to rebuild the games in Unity.

In the end, I’m happy I discovered Ruffle because it will help preserve a bit of gaming history. It also lets me relax and spend time with family during this holiday break, because it buys me some time. And needless to say, there’s a lot going on in the world and trying to work on a Flash website in 2020 hasn’t been my biggest priority.

That said, LostVectors is not ending. It’s merely in a state of transition and partial brokenness (as is all software these days). I will continue to investigate Ruffle and see if it is viable for hosting as a flash player substitute. I will continue to play and record gameplay. I will continue to jam on new ideas. And be sure to follow my current project Bowmaster Legacy.

As you may know, at some point I changed the tagline for my blog from “Flash Games For The People” to just “Games For The People”. I currently develop in Unity and Unity is not going away any time soon. And if it does eventually go away, or something better comes along, I may switch to that. I no longer define myself by the development IDEs or game engines I use. I’m simply a game developer and I love making games.

I’m excited to see what tomorrow brings. Stay Safe! Happy New Year!
